Annual eye exams are a recommended cornerstone of ensuring the health of your eyes. Yearly eye exams may last up to an hour or more depending on your individual needs and usually involve a variety of tests to make sure everything is looking great. The doctor may ask you questions to get to understand your lifestyle better and the use of your eyes. We will check your overall vision, color vision, depth perception and general eye health. We look for any indicators of potential vision problems. We may need to dilate (temporarily enlarge) your pupils to see as much of your eye as possible. Dilated eyes are more sensitive to sunlight so be sure to bring sunglasses to your eye exam.
During the eye exam we may:
Contact Lens Care & Compliance
Dr. Jeff and his team prescribe lenses and care systems that best match your lifestyle and visual needs. Our goal is to help you see more clearly and prevent contact-lens related complications. We may do a fluorescein eye stain test if we suspect you have damage on your cornea, foreign objects in your eye or to see whether the contacts are damaging your cornea.
Our contact lens fitting services include multi-focus correction in patients over 40 who require distance and near correction as well as therapeutic contact lens fitting for Keratoconus and post surgery patients.
Dry Eyes
This is a chronic and progressively worse condition. It may not always be curable, depending on the cause and severity of symptoms. There are ways however to manage this condition which result in better eye comfort, fewer dry eye symptoms, and in some cases clearer vision.
Cataracts
Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over age 40. There are more cases of cataracts worldwide than there are of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy combined, according to Prevent Blindness America (PBA). 22 million Americans age 40 and older are affected by this eye condition. It is manageable with pro-active care. Do not become one of these statistics; schedule your eye exam today to get checked!
Macular Degeneration
This results from the deterioration of the retina, the inside back layer of the eye. The retina records images and sends them to the brain via the optic nerve. The central part of the retina, the macula, will focus central vision and provide the ability to read, focus on objects, drive a car, recognition of faces, and see in fine detail.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is caused by damage to the eye’s optic nerve and may result in vision loss and/or blindness. Early detection and treatment however may help prevent serious vision loss. Without treatment people may slowly lose their peripheral vision. As it stays untreated it gets worse and becomes 'tunnel' vision. Overtime, untreated, complete vision and site may be lost. If you are experiencing any of these beginning symptoms of glaucoma, we urge you to get checked today.
Sport Vision
Many of our patients play sports or participates in outdoor activities. Depending on the types of sports played, multiple pairs of sports vision may be needed. Like shoes, different pairs may be needed for different activities. We will help you determine the best eye solutions for all of your sporting and outdoor recreation.
